Energy enables all human goals and endeavours. Energy:
- Is Expensive
- Has a limited supply
- Resources are unequally distribution around the world
- Is needed in widely varying amounts and types by the various groups,
industries, and countries around the world
- Has a built-in ability to be used as a solution, or a weapon
- Has political ramifications (ie. strings attached) that go beyond its
one-time purchase, sale, and use
- Has risks, costs, & benefits in its use
- Creates wastes, by-products, and pollution during its use.
That's why Energy Efficiency is an
important strategic initiative for most organizations. Energy will be
the
leading competitive
factor for the next decade (2010 - 2020). For recent trends in
energy pricing in Canada, see PQA's Why Energy
Efficiency?
Canada has the worst
energy efficiency for all G8 members of OECD, and is 33% worse than the
USA, our #1 trading partner. Energy inefficiency hurts Canada's
productivity, which kills our economy.
PQA has experience in numerous industrial processes (compressors, fired
heaters, boilers, distillation, evaporation, dryers, electric motors,
electric generation, turbines, heat transfer, HVAC, hydronic heating,
refrigeration, insulation, steam distribution, compressed air, etc.).
With over 30 years of industrial experience, PQA personnel are well
qualified to provide you with the following services:
PQA has experience with Energy
Efficiency/Conservation and/or can help you analyze your situation and
rapidly achieve improvements for:
Space heating, air conditioning, and lighting typically consumes
the largest portion of your energy. PQA can help analyze your
situation, assess your current energy losses, projected future costs
as energy prices increase, develop alternatives, and help you get the
maximum government subsidies to assist the implementation.
If you have distribution warehouses, cold storage, and depots then
space heating, air conditioning, and lighting are significant energy
consumers. In addition, you have the fuel charges for your
rolling stock. PQA can help you assess bio-diesel, CNG, diesel,
electric, gasoline, LNG, propane, and other fuel systems. In
addition, reefers IEP's (Independent Energy Producers) can save you
from idling the main engine for power/HVAC needs.
Most farming and aquaculture sites have an excess of compostable
raw materials. Converting these to usable energy sources (heat,
electricity, methane, etc.) or to high value by-products (fertilizer,
feed, mulch, etc.) is the challenge. PQA can help.
Nursery stock needs to be kept in optimum conditions. Mills
need heat and electricity to run. Bio-wastes can be processed as
hog fuels, mulches, bio-gas sources, or valuable by-products.
Whatever you need, PQA can help your team analyze your options and
find the optimum solution.
Traditionally, energy costs were 4% of the total average cost of
manufacturing. Now that energy costs have more than doubled, and
all your raw materials and shipping costs have an energy surcharge
attached to the prices, you are being driven more and more by the cost
of energy. PQA suggests that the energy component in all of your
manufacturing costs is now the third biggest of most manufacturer's
costs.
Whether compressed air, crushing & grinding, or smelting, the
processing of minerals consume huge amounts of energy. It's one
of the major reasons that Canada consumes more energy per $ of GNP
generated than any other country in the world. That also means
that Canada (and the mining sector) is more exposed and vulnerable to
rising energy prices.
Remember, world mineral prices are set by the most economic mines,
not the least.
Your site will lead the charge towards better energy efficiency, or
you will eventually be left behind as a tapped-out site with
un-economic resources not worth extracting. PQA can help your
team get an effective energy conservation/efficiency program in place.
If you already have such a program, what will happen if that team can
produce twice the results, twice as fast when compared to your nearest
competitor? PQA can help.
55% of your total energy consumption goes for space heating, and
another 25% for domestic hot water consumption (showers, washing,
dishes, laundry, etc.). You are working with after-tax dollars,
with little or no capability to pass your rising energy charges onto
someone else. If energy prices are going up by 20%/yr on average,
and you're paying 25% tax on your earnings, you better get some
significant raises in your pay envelope if you're going to afford the
energy you consume. For seniors, and others on a fixed income, you
need offsetting energy efficiencies to afford the rising energy prices.
Only a few of you will have the inclination to seek out innovative
solutions before you (and everybody else) are forced to respond.
For these few energy leaders, PQA can help. We can provide the
analysis, the technology, and help ensure your solution works the way
you planned.
Charities
There is a huge and growing competitiveness in the search for
donations. People want to be sure their money goes to a good
cause, and it's not wasted on overhead and administration expenses.
You need to prove your efficiency in all aspects (energy being just
one) before you can expect someone to contribute to your cause.
Show how much you care by maximizing the dollars that go towards your
programs and services. Find out how to reduce your environmental
and energy footprint. Call PQA.
Hospitals & Health Care
Facilities
Hospitals are like small cities within large buildings on large
campuses. The doctors, nurses, and other health care
professionals can't do their important jobs if they don't have a
reasonable environment within which to work. Funding of
hospitals and other health care facilities is based on the services
delivered, regardless of how much energy you consume.
Every dollar spent on energy is one less dollar for the medical
care that you should be delivering.
Maximize your medical role by minimizing your energy consumption.
PQA can help you assess your current situation, turbo-charge your
employee involvement for energy conservation, and save you money.
Dollars saved by energy savings are far better than the same dollars
received through donation or funding agencies.
Energy savings are the gifts that keep on giving, each and every
year, without making another funding application.
Municipalities
As the first tier of government, municipalities will clearly hear
the voices of taxpayers as the cost of living and taxes rise from
energy price increases. Municipalities also have a
responsibility for building consensus and activating its citizens to
work co-operatively for the greater good of the all. Energy
conservation & efficiency is a learned skill that can be readily
shared by all. Unfortunately, most citizens are left to struggle
on their own, everyone re-creating their own solution from scratch.
If you want to have productive, happy constituents you need to
spend tax dollars wisely, minimize tax increases, and act pro-actively
in the best interest of your people. Energy conservation and
efficiency do all of this.
